Previous Story: Episode 11 Old Documents From the Edo Period and Wi-Fi-Connected Electronic Lock

In the last episode, Yoko obtained the Simple Lodging Facility license to transform an annex into a guesthouse. In order to allow guests, Yodoe Project members, and housekeepers to enter the place freely, Yoko returned to Yodoe in February, 2019 to installed a device called "Remote Lock," the world's first Wi-Fi-operated remote key. Whoever wants to enter needs to press a passcode, which they set up individually in advance. On the other hand, Yoko can remotely control them and set the terms using a Smartphone or PC, even if she is in Osaka. In between all the work, she also found time to take a closer look at the ancient documents found during the second Yodoe Project. These documents date from the late Edo to the Meiji period. She took a step back from the installation of the recent equipment to touch on the history of more than 150 years ago. She also participated in a gathering held by Mr. Oshita of the local Mei-chan Farm.

Yodoe Project Episode 12 Prologue

The “Yodoe Project” started on the day before Christmas Eve in 2018. A month later, the second round was carried out in late January 2019,  and a lot of stuff was cleared all at once. This time, the third round was held from March 21 to March 23, 2019. In addition to some regular members, some new members participated in the project on the first day, and the jungle-like backyard and living/dining/kitchen areas were being cleaned up. On the second day, even though the number of people decreased, they all enjoyed dismantling the walls between the living/dining/kitchen areas and the Western-style room. They also found the masks Yoko and Shu made when they were students. What they did with these masks was...

Demolition of the Living/Dining/Kitchen Areas Had Begun!

On the second day, March 22, the following three carpenters remained and clean-up had all been done.

On the third day, 23rd, the demolition of the wall between the living/dining/kitchen areas and Western-style room No.2 began.

Shokichi and Gon dismantled walls in the living/dining/kitchen side, and Habucchi did ones for Western-style room No.2. After that, Shokichi removed the walls, leaving only the pillars. Then Gon removed the ceiling (attic floor) of the living/dining/kitchen areas, and Habucchi removed the ceiling of Western-style room No.2. And that was the end of the third Yodoe Project.

Yodoe Project Created by Unique Members!

All of the members who participated up to the third Yodoe Project were freelancers. Every one of them had very interesting and unique backgrounds. Because of their arrangement skills, they were pretty efficient, and they didn’t mind hard work. In all three projects (a total of five days), the main house and garden, which were overflowing with things, were quickly cleared away. This time, they could even start demolishing walls and ceilings on the third day.

Even though many belongings were disposed of, they left behind old furniture and other items at their discretion in addition to the photographs Yoko had asked them to keep. Among those things they kept, there were the masks that Yoko and Shu made when they were middle school students. They were named “Yoko and Shu,” and it has since been worshiped at construction sites.

Yoko and Shu were grateful to meet such reliable young people. They returned to their homes, looking forward to future renovations.
