Yodoe Project Episode 09 Prologue
Four months had passed since Yoko decided to turn the annex into a guesthouse. After going through several processes, on January 29, 2019, she finally obtained the Simple Lodging Facility license. She posted about it on Facebook with great joy and received many positive comments. There was still so much to do, but she was so happy about being at the start of the lodging business and having a place where so many people could stay.
At that time, she had no idea what would happen two months later.

Private Lodging or Simple Lodging?
On September 14, 2018, Yoko visited the Private Lodging Consultation Desk of the Environment and Circulation Promotion Division of the Living Environment Bureau of the Tottori Prefectural Western General Office. The person in charge, Mr. Endo, kindly explained to her how to open a guesthouse.
According to him, there are two main application methods: “Private Lodging (Residential Lodging Business Act)” and “Simple Lodging (Inns and Hotels Act).” A major deciding factor was that Private Lodging limits the number of nights you can stay, so she decided to obtain a license to operate a Simple Lodging Facility.
After going through the following processes, an application for the Simple Lodging business license was completed.
- November 20, 2018…Consultation at the Western General Office
- January 8, 2019…Mail documents to the Western General Office
- January 22, 2019…Fire department inspection→ Document submission to the Western General Office→Inspection by Western General Office.
Received a Business License for a Simple Lodging Facility!
On January 29, 2018, Yoko received the Simple Lodging Facility license. She posted the following paragraphs on Facebook with great joy.
"Since last fall, I have been working to turn my parents' house into a guesthouse. And finally, I received a license for the Simple Lodging Facility today!
Still, a lot needs to be done, such as reconnecting the internet (I discontinued it when my father passed away in late February) and installing a remote lock key.
The date is not set yet, but we are getting one step closer to the opening.
Thanks to my friend, I was introduced to the great project members this year. With their help, the main house is also being cleaned up and renovated.
I think I'll return to my parents' house a lot this year. It is located where you can see the Sea of Japan to the west and Mt. Daisen to the east. Please come and visit us once we are open."
“You did it! Congratulations!” “Awesome!” “I definitely want to go there once!” “Amazing! Can I hold a seminar there as well?” “What a wonderful place. You should be a proprietress of an inn.”
The comment section of Facebook was filled with excitement.
Preparations still needed to be made, but Yoko was overjoyed with the fact that she stood at the starting line of the lodging business. At this time, she had no inkling of what would happen about two months later.
